'RAINBOWS IN THEIR LIVES'
A CELEBRATION OF THE 50 YEAR HISTORY OF THE TEXACO CHILDREN'S ART COMPETITION
The documentary “Rainbows in their Lives” tells the story of the most renowned children’s art competition in Ireland, from its conception in 1955 to its current place in Irish culture.
It is an eclectic mix of archive footage and interviews with present and past winners, including fashion designer Paul Costello, politician Ruairi Quinn and artist Dorothy Cross.
Throughout the documentary we follow the judges through their decision making process and catch a glimpse of the difficult job they undertake each year.
The programme culminates with the 50th Anniversary Awards Ceremony, where we see the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese unveil four special-edition postage stamps which were issued by An Post in 2004 to mark 50 years of the Texaco Children's Art Competition in Ireland.
