STUDENT PAINTINGS ILLUSTRATE TEXACO CHILDREN’S ART COMPETITION TV CAMPAIGN
Paintings by six young Irish artists are set to delight television audiences across Ireland over the coming weeks with the screening of a new 30 seconds commercial designed to promote entries in this year’s 53rd Texaco Children's Art Competition. Running until mid-February, the campaign features works by students whose paintings are representative of the 30,000 young artists who submit entries to the Competition each year.
Those whose works were chosen to illustrate the campaign include Zoe Williams (age 11) from Killinchy, Co. Down (a student at Killinchy Primary School) for her painting entitled ‘My Dog Ajax’ and Justin McKenna (age 16) from Trillick, Co. Tyrone (a student at CBS, Omagh) for his portrait study.
Others whose work features in the campaign are Maria Bridges (age 10) from Oldcourt, New Ross (a student at Scoil Mhuire, Horeswood) for her work entitled ‘The Secret of the Night’ and Robyn O’Reilly (age 8) from St. Joseph’s Road, Naas (a student at Mercy Convent Primary School) for a colourful floral study entitled ‘Blooming Brightly’. From Tallaght, student Catherine Connor (age 13) from Jobstown features through her work entitled ‘Izzy The Snake’ and Shannon Geoghan (age 9), also from Jobstown, through her ‘Self Portrait’. Stations on which the campaign is being broadcast include RTÉ 1, UTV, Network 2, TV3, Sky Ireland, TG4, MTV, Paramount and Channel 4.
Now in its 53rd year, the Texaco Children's Art Competition is the longest running event in the history of art sponsorship.
Closing date for entries is Friday, 23 February. Judging begins in March and results will be announced in April. The presentation of prizes to all winners will take place in Dublin in May.
