DUBLIN 14 SEPTEMBER 2009 – Highlanes Gallery on Laurence Street, Drogheda is to be the venue once again this year for an exhibition of the 161 winning paintings from this year's 55th Texaco Children's Art Competition.
Amongst the works on show will be the painting entitled ‘You Talking To Me?’ by Donegal student, 18-year old Mantas Poderys, which won top prize in the Competition. Also on show will be a still life study entitled ‘Sunflowers’ by special merit award winning Louth student Aoife Purton, age 7, from St. Oliver Plunkett School, Blackrock.
The exhibition will begin on Tuesday 22 September and continue until Monday 28 October. Admission is free and doors will be open from 10.30am to 5.00pm (Monday/Saturday) and from 12.00noon to 5.00pm (Sunday).
An official opening ceremony will take place at 11.00am on Thursday 24 September at which the renowned batik artist and former Texaco Children’s Art Competition winner Bernadette Madden will be guest of honour. Amongst those invited will be this year's winning artists together with students from schools in the Drogheda area.
