DROGHEDA'S HIGHLANES GALLERY TO HOST TEXACO CHILDREN'S ART EXHIBITION

DUBLIN, 8TH SEPTEMBER 2010 – The Highlanes Gallery on Laurence Street, Drogheda is the venue once again for an exhibition of the 161 winning paintings from this year's 56th Texaco Children's Art Competition.

Among the works on show will be the painting entitled ‘Mackerel’ by 17-year old Newry student, Shane Finegan, which won top prize in the competition. Also on show will be a still life study entitled ‘Time on your Hands’ by Louth student artist Shane McCann from Tullyallen National School, which won 2nd prize in category D for 9 to 11-year-olds.

The free exhibition beginning on Tuesday 21 September and continuing to Saturday 9 October is open from 10.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Saturday.

An official opening ceremony will take place at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 21 September at which Ruairi Quinn, TD, himself a former Texaco Children’s Art Competition winner, will be guest of honour. Among those invited will be this year's winning artists together with students from schools in the Drogheda area.
