Texaco winning paintings by N. Ireland students go on show at Ulster Museum
DUBLIN, 18 OCTOBER 2010 – Works by twenty-seven Northern Ireland students, winners in this year’s 56th Texaco Children’s Art Competition, will go on public display at the Ulster Museum in Belfast in an exhibition which opens on Thursday 21st October and continues until Sunday 28th November next.
Amongst the paintings on show will be the top prize winning entry entitled ‘Mackerel’ by 17-year old Newry student, Shane Finegan as well as other winning works by students from Antrim (8), Armagh (1), Down (13), Derry (2) and Tyrone (2).
Some 161 paintings make up the entire exhibition, comprised of first, second and third place entries and twenty Special Merit Award winners in each of seven competition age categories entered by students from across Ireland.
The exhibition is being officially opened at 12.00 noon on Thursday (21st October) by renowned artist and President of the Royal Ulster Academy, Julian Friers.
