WINNING WORKS BY N.IRELAND STUDENTS GO ON EXHIBITION AT ULSTER MUSEUM

Belfast’s Ulster Museum is the venue once again for an exhibition of the 161 winning paintings from the 57th Texaco Children’s Art Competition in which thirty works by N. Ireland students feature.

The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 15th November and continues until Sunday, 8th January 2012. The formal opening takes place at 12noon Thursday, 17th November.

Top winners from N. Ireland whose works feature in the exhibition are Marie-Clare Doran from St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel (2nd prize Category A) for her work entitled ‘The Lovely Lily’ and Ben Cornelissen from Rathfriland High School (2nd prize Category G) for his work ‘The Tatler Cat’. A total of thirty works by N. Ireland students feature in the exhibition – thirteen from Antrim, eleven from Down, four from Armagh and one each from Derry and Tyrone.

Performing the official opening will be guest of honour Hazel Bruce. Hazel, a lecturer in Fine and Applied Art at the University of Ulster with a specialism in Textile Art, was born in Leeds and has lived in Belfast since 1992. She is a member of the 62 Group of Textile Artists. Her works appear in numerous public and private collections. In 1996, she was awarded a Cultural Traditions Fellowship to fund research and a publication on the life of Belfast born painter and textile designer, H.R. Lilley.

The exhibition will remain open at the Ulster Museum on Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am – 5pm. Admission is free and further details can be had on the Ulster Museum web site www.nmni.com
