DUNBOYNE STUDENT ILLUSTRATES INFLUENTIAL U.S. JOURNAL
A painting by six-year-old Dunboyne student Emma McInerney , a pupil at Dunboyne Junior National School, has been chosen to illustrate the front cover of the influential New Hibernia Review which is published by the Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Emma’s painting entitled ‘Birdie’, which won a first prize in the 2010 Texaco Children’s Art Competition, will feature on the summer edition of the journal to be published in June. Works by three other Texaco winners will illustrate the three remaining volumes of the Review to be published this year.
The New Hibernia Review is described as a multidisciplinary journal of Irish studies that offers plainly argued writing on Irish life and culture for both the scholar and lay reader. Published four times a year, it seeks to present a variety of disciplinary and theoretical perspectives, as well as the traditional literary and historical concerns of Irish studies.
